National Games: Works on stadiums fast progressing

In Corporation Stadium (Thrissur), Indoor Stadium (Thrissur), Football Stadium (Kozhikode) and Indoor Stadium (Kozhikode) the civil works have been completed

As part of the National Games to be held in Kerala in February 2014, the construction and renovation of 25 stadiums in the state is fast progressing and in eight centres the work have been completed, said a progress report released by the National Games Secretariat.

In Corporation Stadium (Thrissur), Indoor Stadium (Thrissur), Football Stadium (Kozhikode) and Indoor Stadium (Kozhikode) the civil works have been completed.

Also the renovation work of the University Stadium here has been completed at a cost of Rs 5.25 crore.

The Games Secretariat said that the installation of the floodlights will begin soon at the stadium.

The works have also been completed at the Indoor Stadium (Thripayar, Thrissur), swimming pool (Pirappancode) and Indoor Hall (Shanghumugham).

 ‘’About 90 per cent of the renovation works of Agricultural College Indoor Stadium, Jimmy George Stadium and Chandrashekharan Nair stadium in Thiruvananthapuram also have been completed.

About Rs 2.10 crore was spent for renovating Vellayani Agriculture College ground and flooring works are progressing here.

In Jimmy George Stadium, renovation works to the tune of Rs 7.26 crore are being carried out,’’ said a press release issued by Jacob Punoose, chief commissioner and principal co-ordinator  of National Games Secretariat.

A sum of Rs 4.50 crore has so far been spent for the swimming pool at Pirappancode while the work of the tennis complex at Kumarapuram at a cost of Rs 1.93 core will be completed by October.

The work on the Hockey Stadium in Kollam with astro-turf facilities at a cost of Rs 5.90 crore is progressing.

The Sports Department is spending Rs 19 crore for the works in Kozhikode Corporation stadium which is expected to be completed in December.
