Scheme to Protect Indigenous Breeds

The Animal Husbandry Department  would launch a scheme for the conservation of threatened indigenous livestock breeds of the state, following sanctioning of funds for the same.

The government accorded administrative sanction as per the request of Director of Animal Husbandry for the conservation of indigenous breeds like Attappady black goat nucleus flock, Kasaragod dwarf, Vechoor Kerala and the like.

The Union Government had released an amount of Rs 10 lakh as final instalment of grants-in-aid during 2013-14 for conservation of Attappady black goat nucleus flock launched by the Kerala Livestock Development Board at an approved expenditure of Rs 58 lakh.

Since the budgetary provision for this is only Rs 5 lakh, the Director of Animal Husbandry has requested to accord sanction for re-appropriating Rs 5 lakh.

A working group meeting held last month  had agreed to accord  administrative sanction for the said scheme limiting the budgetary provision of 5 lakh including transfer of funds to Kerala Livestock Development Board.
