Named Fellow of CSI

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Satish Babu, Founder-Director of the International Centre for Free and Open Source Software (ICFOSS), an autonomous institution of Government of Kerala, has been named as Fellow of the Computer Society Of India (CSI) for 2014, which is the golden jubilee year of the society.

The award will be conferred on him on December 12 at the CSI Annual Convention to be held in Hyderabad. Babu was elected national president of CSI during 2012-13 and has held various other positions at the National ExeCom as well as Thiruvananthapuram Chapter of CSI. He is the immediate past chair of IEEE Kerala Section, and holds global positions in IEEE Computer Society.

Babu is also associated with ICANN (Internet Corporation on Assigned Names and Numbers), the global apex organisation in Internet Governance, as member, Nominating Committee (2014 & 2015) and as Vice-Chair of its Asian, Australasian and Pacific Islands Regional At-Large Organisation.  CSI, founded in 1965, is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious professional society in Information Technology.

“Satish Babu has been recognised for his significant leadership contributions to the society at the chapter and national levels, his pioneering efforts in popularising and mainstreaming of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) in the country, and for his outstanding efforts in building linkages with international bodies.” said G Neelakantan, chairman, CSI Thiruvananthapuram.
