'Home' Grown is the Buzz Word

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on Thursday joined the Gandhi Haritha Samridhi project of the KPCC by starting organic farming at his residence here. The farming activity at the minister’s residence has the technical backing of the Krishi Bhavan, Kudapanakunnu.

“Though we have a little land at our diposal, I’m motivated by the urge to have pesticide-free vegetables. I wish that all the families in the state will undertake organic farming at their homes,” he said.

According to the minister, the vegetables with pesticide content being sold in the state  posed a major health hazard. And it was only by increasing the domestic production of organic vegetables that the menace could be  avoided, he pointed out.Furthermore, the Home Minister said the Jail Department was carrying out organic farming on a large-scale.
