Are you curious about Mangalyaan, the Mars orbiter mission that completed one year in the red planet’s orbit on Thursday or interested in the opportunities or want to take up the challenges in other branches of Science? Well here is your chance and be sure to make the best use of it. You will be able to interact with the scientists from the respective fields. ‘Swasraya Bharat’, a mega Science exhibition will be held at Swapna Nagari from October 15 to 21. The exhibition will see the participation of around 200 eminent scientists from diverse fields of Science.

This will be a great opportunity to interact with numerous high profile scientists including Indian Space Research Organisation former chief K Radhakrishnan and Satish Dhawan.

Space Centre chief P Kunhikrishnan, who led the Mangalyaan mission, will address the school students who will visit the expo.

The exhibition on national self reliance in Science and Technology is being organised by Swadeshi Science Movement Kerala and Indian Council of Agricultural Research - Indian Institute of Spices Research.

“Developing a scientific temper in people of Kozhikode is our aim behind hosting this mega Science event here.

“Aiming to reduce the gap between public, especially the students, and the scientists, a large number of experts will take part in the event. Apart from the student-scientist interaction, a programme has been arranged as part of the exhibition on October 16 in which a panel of fifteen scientists will engage in an informal talk with the students. Besides, the scientists’ interaction, other events such as discussion on career option in Science, Science theatre, film festivals etc will be organised as part of the exhibition,” says SSMK state organising secretary Shanoj P B.

Pointing out that the final list of scientists attending the programme is yet to be prepared, he said that K Mohan Kumar, professor at department of Atmospheric Sciences, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Cusat photonics department emeritus scientist VPN Namboodiri, Gireesh Kumar, chemistry scientist at Cusat, scientists from Bio Technology department in Calicut University and two professors from National Institute of Technology will be part of the event.

“A majority of Science institutions in state are associating with the event. Students from around sixty schools in the district have already sent their questions to us and sixty schools have already registered.”
