THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a special drive, the city shadow police on Monday nabbed over 20 juveniles for allegedly rash driving on motorcycles and performing stunts on public road.   The police conducted the drive following reports that many class 11 and class 12 students of major schools in the city were coming to the schools and tuition centres on motorcycles.

For the past few weeks, the selected areas in the city have been under the police surveillance to keep a tab on the violators.

During the surveillance, the police learnt that the minor students were riding on new generation motorcycles and superbikes which have a high acceleration and power. They used to ride and perform stunts at Chakka-Shanghumugham-Airport road reportedly at high speeds.  This often creates troubles for other motorists and pedestrians and even leads to fatal accidents.

The police released the offenders after summoning their parents to the station and directing them to pay a fine of Rs 1,000. The parents were also warned by the police not to encourage their children to use motorcycles till they attain the age of 18. City Police Commissioner G Sparjan Kumar said in a statement that stringent action would be taken against parents if any such instances occurred again.
