THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:With the situation remaining tense in Tamil Nadu, the state police on Monday beefed up security in the districts which share borders with Tamil Nadu.
A huge battalion of police has been deployed in the border areas in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Idukki and Palakkad districts and the KSRTC buses which conducted service to Tamil Nadu have been called back upon the direction of the police.
All the respective District Police Chiefs have been instructed to oversee the security arrangements in the border regions.

State Police Chief Loknath Behera instructed the police to heighten the security at Sabarimala temple as many from Tamil Nadu are present on the temple premises for pilgrimage purposes.
As part of this, the ‘Azhi’ (fireplace for offerings) at the Sannidhanam have been surrounded with tight security surveillance by cordoning off using tight ropes.
“We are well equipped and leave no stones unturned on any untoward incidents,” Behera told Express.
Keralites who are present in Tamil Nadu have also been advised to remain cautious.
Major tourist places, including Thekkady and Munnar are also under strict police surveillance to avoid any untoward incidents.

Ever since reports said that Jayalalithaa suffered cardiac arrest at Apollo hospital at Chennai on Sunday evening, the law and order machinery in the state has been monitoring the situation to ensure safety to the travellers if anything goes out of control.
The DGP also instructed the border check-posts to keep a tab on the ‘unusual movements’ of weapons and explosive items.
