City-based acoustic ambient band Pure Insight on their debut gig and musical prowess

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:A  sensual blend of simple sounds. That’s what makes Pure Insight stand out from the contemporary clamour taking over the Malayali-Western music scene. This Aluva-based band believes that their years of camaraderie and varied musical interests help mark a difference in their sound. You can be sure about that when they cite influences ranging from Beethoven to eccentric and experimental artistes like Thomas Newman. So far, the ensemble has kept their social media followers waiting for more after their single So I Fly received a fair amount of attention on Soundcloud.

Now, Shafeek Najeeb, Peter and George Varghese are excited to present six of their fresh songs at The Muse Room today. Their music may connect well with the listeners, given the intimacy of the performance space. The band hopes that their experimental singles, Light  of Hope and Reflections in River, will arouse Kochiites. When asked about their musical direction, guitarist Peter explains, “We stay away from the trendy distorted tone of the electric guitar, and try to perfect  an acoustic sound infused with electronic ambience, so as to recreate subtle moods.”

The right note
All the members of the trio are ardent fans of movie soundtracks, and they intend to create a musical space for the audience to engage in recollection of personal memories. Vocalist Najeeb, who believes in time-bound musical experiences says, “We’ve all had our share of bad experiences in the past, and music is the way we deal with it. Our attempt is to create pieces that would help tap into various emotions of the listener, despite their distinct past experiences.”  Positive feedback from
individuals within the music scene keeps the band motivated about the fact that they’re
hitting the right notes. “Inspired by the response to So I Fly ,we’re planning a video for our song Every Second & Every Minute by January,” says George, the band’s electro-wizard.
