CIAL plans to open a medical inspection (MI) room for passenters at the International airport

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Bringing cheers to passengers, the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) officials have decided to extend the services of the medical inspection room and allied services to the newly built international terminal here.

CIAL has invited tenders from eligible hospitals for operating the MI Rooms at the new International Terminal (T3) and Domestic Terminal (T1) of Cochin International Airport.
Currently, domestic passengers are forced to await the services of the Medical Inspection room (MI) set up at the international terminal.

In case of a casualty at the domestic terminal, sick passengers will have to be taken to the MI room at the international terminal. Once the two MI rooms are set up at the two terminals, the delay in providing the medical care in emergency situation can be avoided, added officials.

Free medical facilities

Selected reputed hospitals having more than 300 beds are eligible to bid and provide the service.

The MI room operators can also provide services to airlines or any other agencies working at the airport in any location. If the agency staff wish to avail of the MI room, additional personnel will have to be appointed, according to the tender.

The MI room will be equipped with the latest medical facilities to deliver first aid for those falling sick during flights and at the terminal buildings. An emergency ambulance with driver will be provided by CIAL and the ambulance will be positioned in the airside of T3 and may be utilized at T1 on a need basis.  The new international terminal being built at a cost of Rs 1000 crore at the airport will be operational in a month or two, said officials.

What the MI room provides
The service provider will ensure the service of a qualified doctor and five paramedical staff round the clock in the MI room of T3, while in the domestic terminal, the service of a qualified doctor and two paramedical staff will be ensured round the clock.
