THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The city police on Tuesday launched a manhunt for two persons who allegedly sexually abused three children.

The Peroorkada police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) based on a complaint lodged by a woman stating her 12-year-old daughter was sexually abused by the accused. The Museum police also registered a case based on a complaint from the same person alleging her 11-year-old son and his friend were sodomised by the accused.

According to the police, the victims were repeatedly subjected to sexual assault by the accused over the past three months at rented houses under the limits of Peroorkada and Museum police stations.

The police did not reveal the identity of the accused as it would affect the course of investigation. But the accused were under surveillance and would land in the police dragnet soon, said an officer.

The first accused was reportedly the stepfather of the girl. He was staying with the family for the past few years. His friend used to visit both the houses and they together abused the children.

The incident came to light after the girl revealed the ordeal to her mother. The mother initially approached the Childline and later filed a police complaint with the help of Childline activists. The victims were also subjected to medical examination and sent home.
