THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As the nation celebrates its 70th Independence Day on Tuesday, a group of engineers from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has come up with a patriotic music video that envisages how they wish to see an India which celebrates unity in diversity. The music video was composed by Rock@band in association with the Space Engineers Association, a recreation club for employees of Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC), Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) and ISRO Inertial Systems Unit (IISU) -- the three ISRO centres in the capital city.

Sung in languages including Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi and Bengali, the video is the effort of 21 ISRO scientists over the course of one and a half years. Scientist engineer Shiju G Thomas wrote the lyrics and composed the music while Ganesh Mohan directed the music video. “All the work for the song was done after our working hours. Though the audio recording was done almost a year back, we had to wait for some time to capture video of events like the Independence Day parade, Onam festivities, and a few other cultural events,” said Shiju.

“The song is about how we want our India to be -- one that accommodates all cultures, religions, and caste and celebrates unity in diversity. We want to remind everyone what we can achieve as a nation if we can have this harmony,” said Shiju.“ISRO is a prime example for this. We have people from all backgrounds coming from different parts of the country who are working together to achieve great results,” he said. “People from the South, North and North East of India collaborated for this music video,” Shiju added.

The video was released during a function held at the Priyadarshini Auditorium here the other day by former LPSC and VSSC director S Ramakrishnan in the presence of current LPSC director S Somanath. The music video was completed on a paltry budget of Rs 10,000. “We could keep the costs down as everything was done by the ISRO community. Only audio recording, mixing, and matching was done externally,” Shiju said. Video link: https://youtu.be/YYSwKPs1YNg
