Tracing trends in fashion

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: 2016 showed us a whole new world in fashion with trends evolving from clavicles to capes and gender fluid apparels. Remember Jaden Smith’s Louis Vuitton skirts? And, who can forget Ranveer Singh’s dali-like moustache? As this eventful year comes to an end, we catch up with top designers and stylists to get you ready for 2017.

Looking glass
Celebrity stylist Sonya Sandiavo views fashion as a cyclical process and warns us about the return of flare jeans from the ’70s. Though Sandiavo suggests bandanas and silver accessories as some of the mandatory accessories to go with in 2017, over-sized sunglasses are the lead item that this Kochiite swears by. We recommend you to go with this geometric round frame glasses in black by London-based ASOS. Rs 1,160 onwards. Details:asos.com

Going green
The talent behind textured wonders from city-based label Remaya, Anagha Thampi strongly feels that 2017 is going to be all about green. “An accessory that we could definitely count on are sneakers—due to its comfort factor and versatility,” shares the NIFT graduate. Taking cue from this millennial, we suggest these army green cotton blend and leather sneakers from Valentino featuring camouflage panels and micro rockstud embellishments. Rs 53,000 onwards. Roots revival
According to designer Sreejith Jeevan, revival is going to be the
keyword in 2017, but with a modern angle to it. “Fashion will find itself speaking a traditional skill through extremely contemporary and edgy clothes,” adds Jeevan, a regular at Lakme Fashion Week. His pick for the year is this panelled apparel inspired by plantain leaves. “The hand skill here is traditional with zero impact of chemicals,” adds the NID alumni.

Past forward
Narendra Kumar, the creative director of Amazon Fashion
predicts that we’ll see the return of the
’80s in 2017. “The off-shoulder look will
be replaced by the belle sleeve look and the classic boho looks will evolve into a more youthful style. We will also see a shift towards pared back minimal looks with utility references within menswear,” explains Kumar, who recommends this ruffle detailed black dress from LA-based For Love and Lemons.Rs 9,713  nwards.Details: amazon.in
