The Nishagandhi Festival at Kanakakunnu Palace grounds is regaling city-zens with performances par excellence

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Some of the biggest names in performing arts have been regaling the city-zens at the ongoing Nishagandhi Festival at Kanakakunnu Palace grounds.


The inaugural day witnessed a splendid Odissi performance by Aruna Mohanty and group. Day two was noted for performances by Dr Neena Prasad (Mohiniyattam) and Srimayai Vempati (Kuchipudi).

Not to be left behind was Sanjana Arun, who performed Bharatanatyam under the category of ‘Upcoming Talents’. 


Dr Lima Das with her Sattriya performance enthralled the audience on Day three. Moulik Shah, Ishira Parikh and group performed Kathak with utmost passion.

The various forms of Kathak and the final part - ‘Utsav’ - in which the percussion artist along with the dancers performed jugalbandi, was the highlight of the performance.

Day Four of the festival on Monday was noted for the Bharatanatyam performance of Geeta Chandran. The four-part performance, which lasted an hour, was accompanied by the vocals of Guru S Sankar Nattuvangam and Vidhushi Sudha Raghuraman. Mridangam by Vidhvan M V Chandrasekhar and flute by Vidhvan G Raghuraman added to the grandeur of the performance.


This was followed by Mohiniyattam performance by Mandakini Trivedi. The danseuse, who is known for drawing parallels between yoga and dance, performed a rare composition, much to the joy of art lovers in the capital city.
