THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Many individuals are choosing the organic path and the capital is no indifferent to the trend. An attempt to popularise organic farming was witnessed at a one-day event organised at the Institute of Engineers hall in the capital, the other day. Krishipatha Vidyalayam, an event organised by Agri Friends Krishi Samskarika Vedi in association with the Institute of Engineers, to promote the culture of organic farming, was inaugurated by former Indian Ambassador T P Sreenivasan.
Farmers played the role of teachers, while the children were taking down the lessons.
The event also aimed at showing how learning can be made simple for children, said D R Jose, president, Agri Friends Krushi Samskarika Vedi. Fresh crops were brought from paddy fields and backyard gardens. At least, 526 children from 40 schools from different parts and districts of the state participated in the event.
“Pursuing agriculture is a great source of mental relaxation and that is one of our aims. The organisation hopes that the culture of ‘Krishipatha Vidyalayams’ is emulated everywhere. We want such units to be active in all the schools in the state,” said Jose.
Krishipatham awards were also given to Holy Angels School, Vattiyoorkavu Saraswathi Vidyalayam, Cottonhill Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Varkala M G M Model Higher Secondary, Idava Jawahar Public School, St Stephens Pathanapuram, Koothuparambu Higher Secondary School Kannur, Thrissur Technical Higher Secondary School, Avanavanchery Higher Secondary School and S K V H S, Nandancode on the occasion. Adds Jose, “The award was given to the schools who have been performing well in the area of organic farming in the previous years.” Malayalam director Balu Kiriyath and Hariharaputran were among those who attended the event.
