THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala has welcomed the decision by the government to go in for a three-day massive cleanliness drive in the state and to convene an all-party meet against the backdrop of the outbreak of fever and heeding to the consistent pleas of  the Opposition UDF in this regard.

‘’When I visited the Chief Minister at his  official residence to appraise him of the fever outbreak and a disaster in the offing, he readily agreed to the first point listed out in a submitted memorandum for launching a cleanliness drive on a wide scale with people’s participation. We’re glad the suggestion has been accepted now for implementation,” Ramesh said in a statement.

He said the cleanliness drive should have been undertaken across the state much earlier. “Though belated the measures being initiated by the Cabinet now is a welcome sign. The decision to convene a meeting of all political parties to address the issue is also appropriate,” he said.
Ramesh said full support will be extended by the Opposition UDF to the government for the cleanliness drive. The UDF legislators have already kickstarted the drive in their constituencies, he said, adding he had rolled out the initiative the other day at Haripad, represented by him.
