THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The city police is planning to introduce a novel traffic modernisation programme soon to ensure smooth flow of traffic in the city. Kick  starting the modernisation programme, the busy junctions in the city will be notified soon to streamline traffic.

Speaking to media persons, Arul R B Krishna, Deputy Commissioner of police (DCP), said a comprehensive traffic modernisation plan is the need of the hour. However, the development of junctions will be taken up only after receiving feedback from the denizens and commuters.

“We need a relook at the traffic plan in the city. This would help to streamline the traffic. We will invite suggestions from the public through social media including WhatsApp and Facebook. The reforms will be implemented considering the feedback from the general public. For instance, a tree at Poojappura junction poses a threat to motorists and creates traffic snarls. So we are planning to remove the tree at the earliest “, Krishna said.

Many DCPs, who were in charge of city traffic police, had introduced several initiatives in the past to streamline traffic. However, many recommendations got stuck in the files.
