THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Wedding bells are ringing for young Congress MLA K S Sabarinadhan. The young leader, son of former Speaker G Karthikeyan, is all set to tie the knot with Dr Divya S Iyer, sub-collector, Thiruvananthapuram.
Sabarinadhan broke the news on his facebook page on Tuesday morning. Soon, congratulatory messages started pouring in. ‘Kalakki bro!’ went one excited comment. Though the date is yet to be fixed, the wedding is expected to take place by the end of June, Divya said. “It all happened very fast. We met only six months ago after I took over as sub-collector here,” she said.
There was no formal engagement as such, but the families met last week and gave the nod, said Divya, a 2014 batch IAS officer.
The Congress MLA said in his post he met Divya for the first time in Thiruvananthapuram. As they grew closer, he found they had a lot in common including ideas and outlook on life.
An engineering graduate and MBA holder, Sabarinadhan was employed with the TCS when he decided to plunge into politics following the death of his father. The youngest son of Karthikeyan and M T Sulekha, a former Controller of Exams, Kerala University - he was elected to the State Assembly in 2015 from Aruvikkara constituency in Thiruvananthapuram.
He beat CPM’s M Vijayakumar in his first election.
Hailing from Thiruvananthapuram, Divya is an MBBS graduate who stood 48th in the civil services exams held in 2013. The former Kalathilakam who is into dance and music is the daughter of former ISRO employee Sesha Iyer and Bhagavathi Ammal, a former SBT staffer. She has also penned four books.
