Noopura Dhwani, a national dance festival, will see artists from India performing different forms of classical dance

City folks will be treated to an array of classical dance forms in the coming days. Bharat Bhavan, in association with Noopura Dance Academy, is organising Noopura Dhawani, a national dance festival from May 4 to 7. 


Artists from various parts of India will participate in the festival showcasing different forms of classical dance. Bharatanatyam, mohiniyattam, kuchipudi, kathak, odissi, sattriya and sasthreeya nritham are the main genres that will be presented as part of the festival. 


Director Vinayan will inaugurate the festival on May 5 at 5.30 pm while Ayilam Unnikrishnan will deliver the keynote address. Bharat Bhavan secretary Pramod Payyannur, Omanakutty Teacher and K R Kurup will speak at the occasion.

The inaugural session will be followed by Sushant Maharana’s odissi performance and Ganesha, a special choreography by Noopura school students. Meera, a disciple of Mithun Shyam, will present bharatanatyam with her team members later.


On the second day of the festival, dancer and actor Uthara Unni will present bharatanatyam. Another highlight of the day is kuchupudi by Vasanthi, a disciple of Vempati Chinna Satyam which will be followed by sattriya by Tatni Das.

Sattriya is a classical dance drama originated in the Vaishnav monasteries of Assam. There will also be a kuchupudi performance by Lakshmi Shankar on the same day.


Bharatanatyam by Guru Binish and team, kathak by Abhishek Basak and bharatanatyam by Seetha Sasidharan, a disciple of Dhananjayan Master, will be the main performances of the concluding day. 
The performances will be held at Bharat Bhavan on all three days from 6 pm.
