Labour Minister T P Ramakrishnan said on Saturday that steps would be taken to fill the vacancies in ESI hospitals.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  Labour Minister T P Ramakrishnan said on Saturday that steps would be taken to fill the vacancies in ESI hospitals. Inaugurating the award distribution for ESI institutions for  2015, he said the vacancies for assistant insurance medical officers would be filled once the PSC rank list was released.

Steps had been taken to fill the vacancies of  specialist doctors in the Alappuzha, Palakkad and Thottada hospitals. Modernisation of ESI hospitals also would be given priority. Nine  ESI hospitals would be given computerised  radiograph units worth Rs 1.08 crore. Six of the 18 proposed hospitals would be opened soon.

Dispensaries with single doctors at Mukkom, Sulthan Bathery, Kulathupuzha, Munnar,  Peermade and Adimali would be opened. Importance would be given to four of the dispensaries in the plantation sector.  Demand for including all workers in the cashew sector was also strong, he said.

“Reports have been submitted by the committee constituted to conduct study on improving the  status of the ESI hospitals,” he said. The report from the south zone committee had already been received. Once the reports from other regions were also received, discussion would be held with the concerned authorities.

In the hospital category, Ernakulam claimed the first place and Peroorkada the second. In the dispensary category, Cheruvannoor bagged the first place and Asramam the second.  Medical services director Dr Ajitha Nair presided over.
