THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The National Health Mission has opened fever clinics at 15 Primary Health Centres (PHC) in the city, in view of the dengue outbreak. The clinics will function from 10 am to 1 pm every day, said district programme manager of NHM, Dr J Swapna Kumari.
On Sunday around 400 people were diagnosed with fever out of which 42 were referred to the General Hospital for expert care. The district has reported the most number of dengue cases out of the 3,000 cases reported across the state.

The district authorities have launched a sanitation drive to drain out stagnant water that offers breeding space for mosquitoes. A cleaning programme was held at Chirakkulam colony on Sunday. Chairman of development standing committee Vanchiyoor Babu inaugurated the drive. DPM of Arogyakeralam oversaw the programme. As many as 36 nursing students participated in the drive. “The sanitation drive is part of the Mission Ananthapuri. It is important to destroy the breeding spots of mosquitoes before monsoon.” said Dr J Swapna Kumari.

Special counters for dengue diagnosis will be opened at seven government hospitals in the district. Health Minister K K Shylaja will inaugurate the counter at General hospital on Monday at 8 am.
The facility will be available at the district hospitals in Nedumangad, Neyyattinkara, Peroorkada and taluk hospitals at Chirayinkeezhu, Varkala and Vithura.
