THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Children of Sree Chitra Home and the Children’s Home in Poojappura were lucky to be the first recipients in the state of high quality dates sent by President of UAE Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to India to strengthen the ties between both countries.
The children were handed over the date packets jointly by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and UAE consul general Jamal Hussain Al Sabi here on Friday.

The UAE President had sent a consignment of 18 tonnes of high quality dates to the country out of which 10 tonnes were dispatched to the state. The dates will be distributed by the Social Justice Department to children of various homes, BUDS rehabilitation centres, BUDS schools and special schools.

A total of 15 students received the packet of dates from the Chief Minister.  Satheesh, a Class VI student and inmate of Children’s Home Poojappura, was the first to receive the packet. Under the project, 40,000 children will be provided 250 gram of dates each.  Pinarayi remarked the noble gesture by UAE authorities was a reflection of the care the Arab nation has towards the people of Kerala.
