THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The restrictions on cattle trade brought in by the Modi Government are part of an attempt to build ‘Hindu Rashtra’, said CPI general secretary Sudhakar Reddy. Addressing a meet to commemorate the 200th birth anniversary of Karl Marx, Reddy came down heavily on the BJP Government at Centre for dictating the food habits of the people.

“This is nothing but implementation of the Hindu Rashtra agenda. They want to force vegetarianism on us,” he alleged. Reddy said cattle meat is consumed by a larger section of the population as it’s relatively cheaper. It’s rich in protein. Imposing restrictions on cattle trade would affect the farmers and the whole nation.

The CPI leader alleged the Modi government has been trying to attack one section of society after the other. “First they attack the Muslim minorities. Later they targeted the Dalits. They continue to kill Muslims in different parts of the country,” he said.

Sudhakar Reddy accused the Sangh Parivar of trying to saffronise the universities, and the country’s culture. “Now they are trying to dictate what to eat and what not. This cannot be tolerated,” he said.

Referring to the anniversary of October Revolution, he said it changed the course of humanity. It shook capitalism. “After 100 years, October Revolution continues to inspire people and is relevant even today,” he said.
