SIT to probe ATM robbery

A special investigation team (SIT) will probe the ATM robbery at Kariavattom.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A special investigation team (SIT) will probe the ATM robbery at Kariavattom. According to the police, the probe will be extended to other states, especially Haryana and Jharkhand, as they have received information regarding some suspects in these states.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) A Pramod Kumar said the probe has just begun and it is too early to comment on the culprits. The investigation is progressing based on the footage retrieved from the CCTV cameras installed on the road adjacent to the ATM.

“We are verifying the visuals of the vehicles captured by the CCTV cameras installed in the area. Since the robbery has similarities with two robbery attempts and one robbery reported from Alappuzha district last month, we are verifying them. However, we are weighing all options and the culprits will be nabbed soon”, he said.

Unidentified burglars had broken open the unguarded ATM of the SBI at Kariavattom and decamped with `10.18 lakh on Friday morning.
