Thief decamps with doctor's valuables, arrested

The Medical College police on Wednesday arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly committing a series of thefts at the Medical College Hospital (MCH).

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Medical College police on Wednesday arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly committing a series of thefts at the Medical College Hospital (MCH). The police identified the arrested as Jijin of Kottukal, near Balaramapuram.

According to the police, the accused landed in the police net for allegedly stealing a laptop and a bag of a duty doctor of the hospital two days ago. When the doctor was consulting a patient at the fourth ward of the hospital, the accused who was very much aware of the hospital surroundings, entered his room and decamped with the valuables. He was nabbed when he was found drunk inside the ladies nurses’ staff room by some nurse staffs.

Following this, the security guards overpowered him and apparently handed over to police. On interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime.

Earlier, he had also stolen valuables from patients and bystanders and he had been evading police attention for quite some time. He is also accused of stealing gold ornaments and money from a residence at Perinthalmanna in Malappuram district.
