Cash, 20 sovereigns stolen from trader’s house

Burglars struck at the residence of a trader at Kazhakoottam and decamped with Rs 50,000 cash and gold ornaments weighing 20 sovereigns.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Burglars struck at the residence of a trader at Kazhakoottam and decamped with Rs 50,000 cash and gold ornaments weighing 20 sovereigns. The Kazhakoottam police have registered a case and a probe was initiated to trace the burglars.

According to the police, the burglars broke into the residence of Ahamed Shaji at Vetturoad when he and his family were on a tour to Hyderabad for the last four days. The burglary came to light when he returned to the residence on Tuesday night and found the back door broken. Later, he also found the almirah in the bedroom was opened and the valuables missing. 

The police said the burglary is believed to have occurred between Saturday and Tuesday evening. A dog squad and forensic experts examined the spot and collected evidence. The police suspect the involvement of inter-state burglars who came to the city in the guise of migrant labourers.
