Man involved in theft cases nabbed at Thampanoor

A man involved in several theft cases in train was nabbed by the Thampanoor Police on Wednesday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A man involved in several theft cases in train was nabbed by the Thampanoor Police on Wednesday.The accused was identified as Janeesh of Kalady in Ernakulam. He was held during an attempt to steal mobile phone from a car parked at Overbridge near Thampanoor. Police said the accused was a wanted in several cases including thefts of bags and other valuables of passengers from parked vehicles.

“In trains he would conduct thefts at night when passengers would be asleep. His targets are usually long distance travellers,” said Thampanoor sub inspector KL  Sampath. “If not train passengers, he would target passengers who park vehicles near restaurants during nighttime,” he said.

The accused has admitted to stealing a bag from a car parked at Marine Drive in Kochi recently. Police have seized some stolen goods from the accused.  Pending cases against him include those registered at police stations at East Fort in the city, Adimali, Kottayam, Alappuzha and Ernakulam. A couple of cases were also registered by the Railway Police in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.He was produced before the court and was remanded in judicial custody.

Youth caught after burglary attempt

T’Puram: A youth suspected to be from Nepal was arrested by the Thampanoor Police for a burglary attempt.  The 25-year-old named Suresh Bisht, who works in a city restaurant, was caught by the people while attempting to escape after breaking into a house on SS Kovil Road in Thampanoor.  Police said Suresh Bisht broke into the house on Wednesday early morning breaking the lock of the front door. He stole cash and a mobile phone kept in the almirah of the house. The residents, however, woke up hearing the sound and alerted neighbours while the accused ran away. The local residents soon launched a search and apprehended the accused after a chase. The people soon alerted the police and handed over Suresh. Police suspect the accused might have been involved in similar crimes registered in the city recently. His fingerprint has been sent to the Fingerprint Bureau of the police to verify whether he was involved in more crimes.According to Thampanoor circle inspector D K Prithwiraj, the identity of the accused is yet to be ascertained.
