THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It’s going to be a day of the Congress with a slew of stirs on Tuesday. The party is all set to come up with a notable political battle against the state and central governments, unlike many other agitations which had more or less failed to make desired impacts. MPs, MLAs, KPCC office-bearers, DCC presidents, office-bearers of party feeder organisations and local body heads representing the Congress will line up for a dharna in the Cantonment Road stretch in between the Accountant General’s office and Secretariat, against the soaring prices of petrol and diesel tomorrow.

Targeting the policy of the BJP-led Central Government and CPM-led state government for fleecing consumers in the name of fuel price hike, the party has picked up an issue close to the heart of the masses. The Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the Congress has given the call for the stir.

The Karshaka Congress has chosen a day and night stir from Tuesday afternoon, as soon as the dharna on the petroleum issue ends, against the anti-farmer policies of the governments.

V M Sudheeran, who continues to play solo on many issues much to the chagrin of  the majority in the Congress, has cast the dye for a satyagraha of religious and social leaders and organisations arrayed against the liquor policy of  the state government tomorrow itself, in front of  the Secretariat, coinciding with the petroleum prices stir. He has also invited ‘like-minded’ persons, including local bodies’ representatives, to come and express solidarity with the satyagraha and to take up the fight against liquor to new heights.

Former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala and KPCC president M M Hassan will lead the dharna demanding slashing of price on petroleum products, which is taking the prices through the roof.A vociferous plea for bringing petrol and diesel under the GST would position the Congress against the state government also, while the daily pricing mooted by the Centre turning the entire scenario in the past couple of months remains as a matter of prime concern and butt of political attack.
Karshaka Congress state president Lal Varghese Kalpakavadi is leading the two-in-one 24-hour overnight stir for the party by highlighting another area of neglect or inadequate response of the governments towards farm woes.Sudheeran’s initiative to protest against the state government’s liquor policy, albeit with a different bandwagon, is also expected to heighten the sentiments against ruling establishments.
