Talks on sustainable tourism to mark DTPC meet

Stakeholders in the tourism industry, experts and government representatives will gather in the capital on September 27 and brainstorm ways to make sustainable tourism a tool for development.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Stakeholders in the tourism industry, experts and government representatives will gather in the capital on September 27 and brainstorm ways to make sustainable tourism a tool for development.The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) is organising a seminar on ‘Tourism Tomorrow @Thiruvananthapuram: The Sustainable Path Ahead’ at Hotel Apollo Dimora here to mark World Tourism Day.

Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran will inaugurate seminar at 10 am. V S Sivakumar MLA will deliver the presidential address at the inaugural session. Mayor V K Prasanth and Attingal MP A Sampath will be chief guests. MLAs B Sathyan, D K Murali and V Joy, district panchayat president V K Madhu, Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) chairman M Vijayakumar, Akkulam Destination Management Council working chairperson Usha Titus and Kerala Tourism director P Bala Kiran will speak as will KTDC managing director Rahul R, chairman of Confederation of Kerala Tourism Industry E M Najeeb, managing director of Hotel Apollo Dimora O M Abdul Rasheed and DTPC secretary Prasanth T V.Managing director of INKEL T Balakrishnan will speak on ‘Relevance of DTPC today’. This will be followed by a lecture by G Vijayaraghavan, Founder CEO, Technopark, on ‘Sustainable tourism in water bodies.’

E M Najeeb will speak on ‘Tourism planning and infrastructure development’, while P K Anish Kumar, president, Association of Tourism Trade Organisations in India, will deliver a lecture on ‘Sustainable Tourism: A tool for development.’

Tribal students set for a memorable tourism experience

T’Puram: For 65 students of Vlavatti Tribal School in the Kottur forest area in the capital, the upcoming World Tourism Day on Wednesday will be an unforgettable experience. The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC), along with an NGO Anybody Can Do and a private FM channel will organise a trip for the students to various parts of the city. “For most of the students, it will be their first ever trip to the city,” DTPC Secretary Prasanth TV said.  The students will visit the museum, zoo, Veli Tourist Village and Shanghumugham.
