A five-day movie feast for kids

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Children’s film festivals seem to be the in-thing nowadays in the capital city. The Purogamana Kalasahitya Sanghom is the latest to join the bandwagon by organising a treat for children. The organisation has announced a five-day film festival for children in the city starting April 25.

Titled ‘Montage,’ the festival will be held at the Government LP School, Cotton Hill, with support from the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy. In all, ten films will be screened at the festival, the organisers said.
The White Balloon, a 1995 Iranian movie by Jafar Panahi; The Colour of Paradise directed by Majid Majidi; the Spanish-language film Colours of the Mountain; the 2013 Australian movie The Rocket and Wall-E are some of the big attractions at the festival. The Italian classic Life is Beautiful, and Taare Zameen Par are also part of the list. Malayalam films include Ottaal, Guppy and Kochavva Paulo Ayyappa Coelho.

There’s more. Film appreciation contests, and competitions in short filmmaking and screenplay writing also are planned as part of the five-day event. Works Minister G Sudhakaran will inaugurate the festival at 4 pm on April 25. State film award winner and scriptwriter Sajeev Pazhoor will be felicitated at the function.

As part of the five-day event, young delegates will get an opportunity to visit the Chitranjali Studio on April 27 and interact with film personalities on April 26 and 28. Registration is free and will begin on April 22. The capital city is ready to host the first International Children’s Film Festival of Kerala (ICFFK) from May 14 to 20.
