THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  This one is for the countless officegoers who dream of relishing homemade food for lunch. Tucking into piping hot homely food during lunch break need not be a luxury anymore. Now, you will get your lunch boxes delivered to you. The 'Vova Dabbawalas' is here!

Sreejith Jayan, a youngster based in the city, is set to launch a tiffin-delivery system christened 'Vova Dabbawalas' wherein office goers residing and working in the Corporation city limits will get their food delivered right in their office spaces. Ever since the announcement was made, Sreejith's phone has been ringing off the hook. “We are flooded with enquiry calls,” says the 30-year-old. “The response has been immense and once our app is released, the customers will get to place their orders," he adds.

The pilot run started last month and the Vova Dabbawala team has been delivering food to the office goers at Technopark, Secretariat and other offices. It was after the cab service Sreejith was working ran into loses that he decided to start this venture.

“The aim was to help the womenfolk who are burdened with the household chores early morning. With this, they can work in their pace and customers get to enjoy homely food,” he adds. The Vova Dabbawalas aren't connected to the famous Dabbawalas of Mumbai, but modelled on it. The Vova Dabbawalas will collect the tiffin from your homes and deliver it to your workplace. Sreejith and his friend Prajeeth P Das spent around 20 days in Delhi and Mumbai learning about the Dabbawalas.

“The error rating in the system is very low and so we modelled our system on the Dabbawalas,” he says. “We are getting several queries to deliver tiffin boxes to school children as well. We intend to include that in the next phase,” he adds.

The delivery teams have been deployed at four areas-Peroorkada, Thiruvallom, Kazhakoottam and Thiruvananthapuram city limits. All one has to ensure is to keep the tiffin boxes ready by 11 am when the team arrives to collect it. The collected tiffins will be brought to Poojappura, which is the hub centre of all the activities, following which the tiffins will be ferried to the respective offices. “At present majority of the orders are from Technopark area but we will be covering the entire corporation limits in the city,” says Sreejith.

The customers can avail the service by either placing the order via the Vova Dabbawala app or through the toll-free number. The user gets intimated at all instances, starting with the collection of the tiffin boxes. “You can track the tiffin box via the app and all details including the contact number of the person who delivers your tiffin is shared,” Sreejith adds.

Vova Dabbawalas will start service in the city from May 15.
