THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ahead of the Attukal Pongala on March 2, the Suchitwa Mission has requested all stakeholders to strictly adhere to the Green Protocol. Suchitwa Mission executive director Mitra T requested pilgrims who would arrive from various parts of the state to avoid plastic covers, plastic plates and disposable cups and plates. Instead, they should bring utensils, plates and glasses made of steel and carry cloth bags.

Temple trust representatives, traders’ bodies, clubs and voluntary organisations which would provide breakfast, lunch, water and juice to pilgrims should completely adhere to Green Protocol and avoid plastic and disposable items.The leftovers after the pongala should not be discarded on the roadside but put in waste bins, the Suchitwa Mission said.

With each passing year, the number of pilgrims to Attukal temple is witnessing a steady rise. The quanity of waste on account of the pilgrimage has also gone up considerably.Suchitwa Mission requested temple trust members, traders’ bodies, clubs and volunatary organisations to cooperate with authorities to ensure that the temple premises and the city are clean after the ritual.
