THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Police have arrested a stalker who allegedly threw acid on a 24-year-old woman at Kuttichal on Tuesday. He was identified as Sudeesh of Paruthipally, Kuttichal, near Kattakada.

Neyyar Dam Police said Sudeesh, a shipping company staff in his early thirties, attacked Jeena after she rejected his marriage proposal over Facebook. He had been stalking Jeena, the victim who is a teacher at a local school, for some months.

The police said the youth was provoked after he heard about Jeena’s family considering marriage proposals for her.  The accused had arrived for a vacation from West Asia two weeks ago. On Tuesday evening, he came on a motorbike and waylaid Jeena who was also riding a two-wheeler. Before Jeena could identify him, the accused hurled acid on her and escaped.

As Jeena was wearing a helmet, her face and head were saved. But she suffered burn injuries to her neck, shoulder and back. She has been admitted to the Medical College Hospital.
A police team led by Nedumangad DySP Anilkumar zeroed in on Sudheesh after browsing the Facebook chats of Jeena.
