THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Come November, Kattakada Assembly Constituency can claim 68 ‘green’ schools in its jurisdiction. The said initiative, which will be implemented as part of the ‘Jalasamrudhi’ project, will be carried out with the able support of Haritha Keralam Mission and Suchitwa Mission.
“The initial step towards making the schools ‘green’ is to convert them into ‘clean schools’. As part of the same, various waste management mechanisms will be installed at these schools. Along with that the teachers, as well as the students, will be made aware of using and maintaining it with the help of Suchitwa Mission,” said IB Satheesh MLA.
At the same time, the officers who were associating with the programme said that for the successful implementation of the project, various boxes will be installed at the school campus for the collection of plastic wastes and other non-degradable wastes.
“Three boxes- pen collection box, plastic collection box and paper collection box- will be installed at the campus. It will be also ensured that the schools implement the green protocol in letter and spirit. The said initiatives will be implemented within August,” said an officer with Suchitwa Mission.
It was on last year that the Jalasamrudhi programme got rolled out. The programme, being implemented jointly by the Kerala State Land Use Board and the Haritha Keralam Mission, had already launched a slew of novel initiatives including projects meant for water-conservation, rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharging and projects that intend to attain self-sufficiencies in agricultural produce and food-grain production.
