Nurse Lini should be an inspiration, says scientist Goverdhan Mehta

The memory of Lini Puthussery, the nurse who died while treating victims of the Nipah virus attack, should act as an inspiration, renowned scientist Goverdhan Mehta said on Monday.

TIRUVANANTHAPURAM : The memory of Lini Puthussery, the nurse who died while treating victims of the Nipah virus attack, should act as an inspiration, renowned scientist Goverdhan Mehta said on Monday. Mehta, who is University distinguished professor and Dr Kallam Anji Reddy Chair, School of Chemistry, University of Hyderabad, was addressing students at the sixth convocation of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) at Vithura here. 

‘’Let Lini’s sacrifice in the line of duty be an inspiration to you,’’ he said, reminding students about social responsibility and the unifying role they can play in the national scenario. ‘’Once in a while, take a selfie of yourself with the world around you. That will equip you to face life’s challenges,’’ he said. 

Tessy Thomas, director, Advanced Systems Laboratory, DRDO, pointed out the country’s economic growth was dependent on the quality of its human resources. She exhorted students to learn the art of being courageous and making the impossible possible. As many as 15 PhD students, 119 BS-MS students and two PG students received their degrees on Monday. IISER T’Puram started functioning at Vithura in 2008.
