THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Cinema cannot be seen as an art, sculptor Kanayi Kunjiraman said. He was inaugurating ‘Varnolsavam -2018’, a school-level art-literary competition organised by Kerala State Welfare for Child Council in view of Children’s Day in the district here on Monday.  “Cinema can’t be seen as an art form. In fact, Cinema is a collective effort of acting as well as the technical expertise. So we can’t see it as an art. An actor only obeys the instruction of a director. But an art is an inborn talent. No one can teach an art. Art is correlated with life”, Kanayi said.

He said the drawing skill is an inborn talent and hence the children should draw during their free time. Kanayi also reminded the children that the drawings should not be imitated and it should always be original. A personality of a child will be completed only through art and games, he said.Kanayi further added that parents or guardians should teach the first letter to the child rather than the gurus.

“A guru can extend his positive energy to children. But parents can teach positive and negative aspects of life. The children should be given freedom. The guardians should also learn things from children,” Kanayi said.   Film actor Sudheer Karamana was the chief guest of the function. Kanayi inaugurated the function by drawing the portrait of Sudheer Karamana on a canvas in front of him. S P Deepak, General Secretary of the council, presided over the function. Treasurer G Radhakrishnan welcomed the gathering while L Arun Gopi delivered the vote of thanks. The competition will conclude on November 9. Around 3,000 children are expected to participate in the competition.
