VIJAYAWADA: Following the irregularities that came to light at Vijayawada Municipal Corporation’s vehicle depot, municipal commissioner J Nivas made a surprise visit on Thursday. He interacted with mechanics and drivers and warned them of stern action if they are found neglecting their duties.After witnessing several garbage lifting vehicles lying defunct, the civic body chief expressed dissatisfaction over the poor maintenance.

He directed drivers to attend their duties by 5:30 am every day to segregate the garbage at division level and maintain a vehicle history book. In turn, the drivers brought the salaries issue into the notice of Nivas. He assured that payment would be done after holding discussions with concerned contractors. Nivas also instructed the vehicle depot incharge to submit a detailed report on the list of garbage lifting vehicles lying defunct and estimations for repairing them.

He inspected the petrol bills and records pertaining to the amount spent for purchasing the spares. The civic body chief ordered officials to conduct an awareness meeting with drivers and mechanics over the maintenance of vehicles.VMC superintendent engineer P Adiseshu, executive engineer K Koteswara Rao and others accompanied Nivas on his visit.
