VIJAYAWADA: Vijayawada police have taken five persons into custody for their alleged connection with the sensational murder of rowdy-sheeter Kaalidasu Subramnyam alias Subbu in broad daylight on Wednesday.  During a manhunt launched to nab the accused, Vijayawada police reportedly identified five out of six accused near a flyover on Mangalagiri-Guntur Highway in Mangalagiri, Guntur district.

The five arrested were identified as Gaddeti Surendra, Gaddeti Balaiah, Samudrala Pavan Kumar alias Laddu, Nutalapati Arun and Kamepalli Lakshmaiah.

According to sources, Vijayawada police got credible information that the six accused stayed back in Vijayawada on Wednesday after killing Subbu fearing that they would be caught if they return to Tenali. Vijayawada police alerted Tenali police and asked them to take  rowdy-sheeter Gaddeti Surendra’s henchman into custody.

In 2015, Surendra killed Subbu’s elder brother Kalidasu Satyanarayana in Tenali after returning from a temple. Surendra and Satyanarayana were bitter rivals and had strong political affiliations. Avenging his brother’s murder, Subbu planned to kill Surendra and even attempted to kill him. But, all his attempts were exercises in futility.

Soon after, police opened a rowdy-sheet and banished Subbu from Tenali after which he came to Vijayawada where he joined TDP leader Katragadda Srinu’s gang and committed many crimes.
In order to act out his revenge on Surendra, Subbu even tried to purchase guns in Hyderabad but was caught by Vijayawada police on October 24. “Subbu attacked many persons with  directions from Srinu. There are rumours doing the rounds that Srinu colluded with Surendra to kill Subbu as the relationship between them had turned sour,” claim sources close to Katragadda Srinu.
