Clad in red robes, 60,000 devotees throng Durga temple on Day 2

A majority of pilgrims slept on queues on the night of 10 December to have early darshan next day. It took over five hours for pilgrims to get darshan of Goddess.

VIJAYAWADA: Over 60,000 devotees visited Kanaka Durga temple on the second day of Bhavani Deeksha Viramana on Monday. Clad in red robes, devotees from different parts of the State came to the city by different modes of transport.   The pilgrim turnout was very high on Monday given that a majority of the devotees do not prefer deeksha relinquishment on Tuesday. Devotees were allowed to have a darshan of the presiding deity from as early as 3 am and the darshan continued till 11 pm. 

In the evening, City Police commissioner Gautam Sawang along with Traffic DCP Kranti Rana Tata inspected the arrangements being offered to the devotees near Canal Road and tonsure hall. Sawang instructed officials to deploy additional forces on Canal Road to manage the rush and regulate the movement of devotees in the queues. A majority of the pilgrims had slept on the queue lines on Sunday night to have a darshan of the Goddess in wee hours of Monday. 

Devotion takes over pain for 8 Bhavani devotees
Vijayawada:
Eight Bhavani devotees were injured  in a road accident on the National Highway in Nidamanuru village in the outskirts of Vijayawada Monday morning. According to Patamata police, the mishap occurred when a speeding auto rickshaw from Rajavaram village of West Godavari district rammed a truck parked on the NH near Nidamanuru village.

The auto driver lost control and hit the stationed truck. The injured devotees were shifted to Government hospital for treatment. Later, after availing treatment, the devotees had darshan at Durga temple and left for their native place. Patamata police registered a case and took up the investigation.
