Complaints against ‘unnatural sex’ soar in Vijayawada

According to sources, over 10 % of cases are of marital rape of which nearly half of them are due to habit of watching porn and trying to replicate same with partner

VIJAYAWADA: This year, over 20 cases have been received at the family counselling centre in Vijayawada where the husbands are forcing their spouses for unnatural sex. In all the cases, women complain that their husbands are not only addicted to porn, but they even try replicating the same in real life with their better halves. Revolting stories of violent atrocities against women, that too from the most unexpected quarters, are slowly tumbling out of the city’s bedrooms and reaching the counselling centres.

From a husband who repeatedly raped his wife, to one who helped his friend rape his wife, to another who tried to make money by selling the intimate moments he shared with his wife on the Internet, Vijayawada is seeing them all. In the last one year, Vijayawada Sakhi and Bharosa Centres have received over 100 complaints of domestic violence, of which over 20 have been registered as marital rape and sexual harassment.

“We regularly deal with domestic violence cases but the cases of marital rape could be much higher since most of them are not reported by women. Often, women do not file complaints of marital rape due to fear of social stigma. Sometimes, they go unreported due to lack of stringent laws. Infact, a majority of them who come for separation don’t open up about marital rape or sexual harassment in their first visit,” said K Sudharani, counsellor at Sakhi Centre.

She further added, “When a domestic violence case comes to the centre, we counsel the victim and then conduct therapy for the couple. We also refer them to some treatment.”Till date, there are over 1,200 divorce cases are pending with the principal family court in Vijayawada. According to legal sources, over 10 percent of the cases are of marital rape of which nearly half of them are due to the habit of watching porn and trying to replicate the same with the partner.Meanwhile, psychiatrist Ayodhya said, “Watching porn is highly addictive and people tend to do the same with their partner.”
