It’s official: Assembly to be tower-shaped 

Cabinet okays skyscraper design, which also got good feedback from public; it will come up in 87,000 sq m

VIJAYAWADA:  The Andhra Pradesh Legislature to come up in the Government Administrative Complex will be a tower-shaped building.The State Cabinet met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at the Interim Government Complex in Velagapudi on Saturday, gave its approval to the tower- shaped design for the AP Legislature. After going through the designs submitted by London-based Foster + Partners, the Cabinet opined that the tower-shaped design, which also got good feedback from public, is the best design.

Detailed plan of the AP Legislature Complex is expected to be submitted by Foster + Partners in two or three weeks, following which the government will commence the works. The complex will come up in four floors, which consists of the Assembly, Council, central hall and administrative building. It is expected to be completed by 18 months after commencing the works. The building will come up in 87,000 square meters with a carpet area of 7.8 lakh sq. ft. The building will be located in the middle of 125 acres water body. The 250-meter tower will have a viewpoint, where 70 persons at a time can have bird’s eye view of the entire capital city.

Chandranna Pellikanuka
The state Cabinet decided to launch the Chandranna Pellikanuka (wedding gift) scheme from February, 2108. The government will extend financial benefit to the tune of `50,000, `40,000 and `35,000 for the families of bride from minorities, STs, SCs and Backward Classes respectively.
This scheme expected to benefit 40,000 families in 2018.

Transgender Pension Policy
The Cabinet discussed in detail the Transgender pension policy. It decided to put the policy in public domain to elicit public opinion. Transgenders above 18 years will be provided a monthly pension of `1,500. it is expected to benefit 26,000 people. They would also be provided ration cards, house sites and scholarships along with skill development training. Loans will be arranged for them to start business.  

Polavaram
While discussing the Polavaram project, the Cabinet has decided to extend the time to the contractor to return mobilisation advance by another year. The contractor is supposed to return the mobilisation advance by October, 2017. The government had provided 404.85 crore as mobilisation advance to the contractor for investigation, survey, design/drawing and other preliminary preparation and also for mobilising the necessary machinery and labour at the project site.

Along with interest of `124.70 crore, the contractor should pay `529.55 crore to the government by October this year. However, the Cabinet has asked the construction company to provide bank guarantee for `43.87 crore also apart from the `485.83 crore which it had agreed.
9 new mandals
While three mandals each will come up in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada cities, one each Urban mandal will be created in Guntur, Nellore and Kurnool cities. The existing Visakhapatnam Urban and Rural and Vijayawada Urban and Rural mandals will be restructured.

Other decisions
Government will set up Additional Chief Metropolitan-cum-senior civil judge court at Gannavaram. All the 27 posts approved for the court and employees will be paid as per the 2015 Pay Revision Commission. It will put an additional burden of `1.46 crore per annum on State exchequer.Cabinet decided to allocate 75 acres of land to Chennai-based Ashok Leyland at Mallavalli in Bapulapadu mandal of Krishna for setting up greenfield and M & HCV manufacturing plant and auxiliary units. A total investment of `135 crore is expected.Cabinet also decided to allocate 81 acres to Mohan Spintex India Limited for setting up integrated mega textile unit. Cabinet gave nod to notify 381.61 acres of land wildlife sanctuary park in Ganapeswaram.
