VIJAYAWADA: With an objective to create awareness and to register organ donors, the North Tablers in association with Mukhi Media and Jhari organized an organ donation drive entitled “Leave a Legacy of Life” on Sunday at Sindhu Bhavan.
Delivering the key note, president of Jhari Krishna Mohan said many people had little or no idea about donation of organs.

“Organ donation is a notable act. There is a lot of misconception about organ donation. Organs such as heart, kidneys, liver, pancreas, and eyes can be transplanted from the bodies of deceased persons,” said Mohan. He added that organ donation is a wonderful legacy that one can leave behind. On being asked if it is possible to receive organs from friends or relatives, senior surgeon Dr. Pattabhiramaiah said, “As per Transplantation of Human Organ Act, any living person can donate organs citing attachment towards the recipient.

Such cases have to be approved by the hospital level authorization committee.”
Ms. Surekha, a Transplant Coordinator, shared her experiences on grief counseling and organ donation. She said that many patients suffer from end stage of diseases of various organs.
Niru Lakhotia, an office bearer of North Tablers said they came up with the initiative to register willing donors.
