ELURU: The police on Monday arrested Ananda group director Rudraraju Ananda Ramesh Varma, who is the incharge of the aqua processing unit at Nallamvarithota village in Mogalthur mandal, in connection with a mishap that took place in the unit on March 30. It may be recalled here that five workers died due to asphyxiation in the effluents sump of the aqua unit.

The police took action against the aqua unit management based on the forensic report, which confirmed the leak of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide gases in the effluents sump when the workers went into it for cleaning. 


The leak of poisonous gases resulted in the death of five workers due to asphyxiation. Narsapur DSP G Poornachandra Rao told newsmen that the incharge of the aqua unit was arrested under Section 304-A of IPC, which is a bailable case. No other details were revealed by the police.
