The 33rd All India Postal Table Tennis tournament began on a grand note at the DRRMC indoor stadium here on Monday.

VIJAYAWADA: The 33rd All India Postal Table Tennis tournament began on a grand note at the DRRMC indoor stadium here on Monday. Special Chief Secretary (Sports) L V Subrahmanyam was the chief guest for the inaugural session and formally launched the tourney.

Speaking on the occasion, Subramanyam said that the State government has directed to prepare a road map for construction of five indoor stadiums of international standards in various cities of AP in the next two years. A proposal was also under consideration to construct a swanky indoor stadium at Vidyadharapuram in the city by December 2018, he informed.

The special chief secretary also underlined the need for employees’ participation in sports. He said that 60 per cent of the population in Scandinavian countries take part in sports while in India, 60 per cent of the population spend time watching sports on television.At least now, people should recognise the importance of sports and aim to be fit and healthy, he said.
