P Srimannarayana to file review petition before NGT

P Srimannarayana, who had moved the NGT demanding the entire Amaravati project to be stayed on the grounds that it involved gross violation of green law, said he would file a review petition.

VIJAYAWADA: P Srimannarayana, who had moved the NGT demanding the entire Amaravati project to be stayed on the grounds that it involved gross violation of green law, on Sunday said he would file a review petition before the National Green Tribunal. “If the tribunal again rejects the petition, I will move the Supreme Court or the International Court,” he said.

Earlier, rejecting the contention of Srimannarayana, the NGT principal bench at New Delhi headed by chairperson justice Swatanter Kumar had said since there was no flooding from river Krishna due to existence of bund, the proposed capital city cannot be said to be located within the flood plains.

Srimannarayana said the NGT order clearly stated that Kondaveedu rivulet should not be affected due to the capital city works. However, he said it is impossible to go on with the construction of the capital city without changing the course of Kondaveedu rivulet. He said constructing capital city in near Nuzivid is the best option. “The truth is that CM Chandrababu Naidu, along with 30 others, have built residences in the river area, violating environmental norms,” he said.

Srimannarayana sought the help of tribunal in order to protect the fertile land on Krishna river belt from the greedy people. He said that the land that was allotted to the farmers lies in the flood area of Kondaveedu rivulet, which is not suitable for residential area. The interim secretariat and the Assembly are also said to be in the same area.

He expressed his anguish stating that those who should be the protectors have occupied the Krishna river basin and have built illegal buildings, which will harm the river, and, hence, the environment. He said the supreme committee and the supervisory committee set up by the National Green Tribunal should supervise the Amaravti works.

Srimannarayana said as per the tribunal judgment, the capital construction should be done by following 191 conditions laid by it and the forest land under the area of Amaravati must be protected. The government should demolish the buildings in the capita city area which were built violating  rules. Of the acquired 43,000 acres of land, no construction should be made in 24,000 acres near Kondaveedu rivulet.
Petitioners P Srimannarayana and Anantha Kamalakarao said the farmers, who gave their lands for capital construction, are at a loss.
