State to obtain robust disaster management mechanism

Claiming that the State will obtain a robust mechanism by 2030 to effectively deal with natural calamities like floods, cyclones and other disasters, Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management.

VIJAYAWADA:  Claiming that the State will obtain a robust mechanism by 2030 to effectively deal with natural calamities like floods, cyclones and other disasters, Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Association (APSDMA) in association with UNICEF and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) released the roadmap for the implementation of Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR). 

In a one-day workshop conducted with various stockholders-National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, fire, Navy, Air Force, Electricity and other departments on Tuesday, APSDMA officials and representatives from UNICEF and UNDP discussed seven factors and four techniques related to Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). 

Lieutenant General N C Marwah of National Disaster Management Authority (NMDA) and UNICEF representative Mahendra Rajaram explained the Sendai Framework and claimed that it is designed in a way such that suggestion of stockholders have been included to decrease the intensity of disasters. “AP has a robust mechanism of dealing with disasters. Massive efforts were taken at the time of Cyclone Hudhud and the Central government is also giving enough funds to increase the strength,” said N C Marwah.
