Government to promote organic farming across State

The State government is planning to promote and practice organic farming across the State for the next five years.

VIJAYAWADA: The State government is planning to promote and practice organic farming across the State for the next five years.At present, organic farming is being taken up by 1.4 lakh farmers in an area of one lakh acres in 974 villages across the district and stood at the top in the nation in terms of organic farming, said Agriculture Minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy.

Speaking to mediapersons at the Interim Government Complex in Velagapudi on Wednesday, Somireddy said that the United Nation’s Environmental Programme (UNEP) came forward for extending financial and technical support to the State for promoting organic farming.Reddy said that a team led by UNEP Executive Director Erik Solheim will visit Krishna and other parts of the State from October 15 to 18 to study the area.
