VIJAYAWADA: With the festival of lights just round the corner, city police have warned against illegal sale of firecrackers and said that licence under the Explosives Act has to be obtained by those who want to sell and store crackers here.In a press release issued here on Thursday, Police Commissioner Gautam Sawang said that they have taken steps to prevent illegal sale of crackers. Selling and storing crackers without a valid licence is unlawful and people should desist from buying crackers from illegal outlets, he said. 


Sawang also sought the cooperation of people to implement the Supreme Court’s order which prohibits bursting of crackers between 10 pm and 6 am. “Mobile police squads on beat are empowered to initiate action in case of violations under the Explosives Act and IPC 435,” he added.
