Scared of maths,13-year-old kills self

A 13-year-old allegedly committed suicide on Monday by consuming pesticide as she was unable to score well in maths.

VIJAYAWADA: A 13-year-old allegedly committed suicide on Monday by consuming pesticide as she was unable to score well in maths.The incident took place in a private school in Swathanthrapuram village of Challapalle mandal, Krishna district.

Paalanki Saritha, who belonged to Ullipalem village of Challapalle mandal, lost her parents in a road accident a few years ago, after which her maternal uncle has been taking care of her. The Class 9 student was frustrated and upset that she could not grasp the subject despite desperate efforts. “She consumed pesticide and came to school. After she complained of fatigue, her class teacher told her to sit on the last bench, minutes later she was seen frothing in the mouth and nose,” said police officials.

Worried, the school management rushed the girl to a local hospital and gave her first aid. She breathed her last while being transferred to a multi- speciality hospital in Avanigadda.The body will be handed over to the girl’s family after autopsy is conducted.
