VIJAYAWADA: Municipal Commissioner J Nivas instructed the officials concerned to issue show cause notices to the ground level staff in 37 and 39 divisions for their failure to prevent water leakages and maintain sanitation.

The civic body chief on Monday inspected Bhavanipuram, Kabela and Urmila Subbarao Nagar areas and inquired with the residents about the maintenance of drains and sanitation. The residents complained that plastic and other material choked the major drain in Crombay road and overflowing drainage in the area became breeding ground for mosquitoes. He instructed the sanitation inspector to clear the waste on war footing and unclog the manholes in the locality.

Nivas also expressed his dissatisfaction over the sanitation staff for not segregating dry and wet waste in Brahmaiah Colony. He ordered the public health department officials to issue show cause notice to the sanitary inspector and staff for dereliction of duty. After inspecting the water leakage near KBN College, the civic body chief directed the officials concerned to issue show cause notices to deputy and executive engineers for failing to prevent the problem despite complaints from the residents.

Corporator Y Ramaiah, executive engineer K Koteswara Rao and other officials accompanied the municipal commissioner.
