VIJAYAWADA: A 48-year-old woman was brutally attacked with knives by two assailants at her house in Acharivari Street at Satyanarayanapuram here on Friday. When she raised an alarm, neighbours rushed to the house where they saw her bleeding profusely in the neck. She was immediately taken to a private hospital. The incident has created a panic in the area.

According to Satyanaranapuram CI P Kanaka Rao, the victim, M Padmavathi, was alone at her house when the incident took place. Around 2 pm, two men knocked on her door and enquired about her husband Murali (52). When she told them that he had gone outand would return in a few hours, the duo reportedly barged in and attacked her. They fled the place when they realised that neighbours were coming to hier rescue.   

“We reached the spot along with the dog squad to collect clues and evidence after we were informed by neighbours about the incident. Locals believe that her husband has financial differences with his friends. We are investigating into the matter and verifying the CCTV footage,” the CI said. In the CCTV footage, two men were seen running from the backside of the house.

Meanwhile, the in-charge commissioner of police Kanthi Rana Tata told media that Padmavathi was out of danger and undergoing treatment. “She received two cut injuries on her neck. When she shouted, the accused ran away from the house.

We are also suspecting robbery angle in the incident,” he said. A case under Section 307 of IPC was registered. Six special teams have been formed to nab the accused.
